SULAIMANI – President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani expressed on Thursday (November 22) his readiness to hit the restart button with Iraq and establish strong ties in order to correct the mistakes of the past.

“We support the new start we have with the new Iraqi government. Part of the purpose of my visit to Baghdad is to deliver a message to everyone both inside and outside of Iraq that we will take the new chance we have been given in Iraq,” Barzani said during a news conference with the Head of al-Fateh List, Hadi al-Amiri.

Barzani added that he will support Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi, with whom he met earlier in the day.

“We will overcome all barriers and build relations to serve the people,” he said.

The KDP President is also likely to meet with Sairoon List head Moqdata al-Sadr in Najaf during his southern trip.

Barzani will not meet with President Barham Salih, who is on an official trip in Italy.

It is the first time Barzani has visited Baghdad since the Region held a referendum on independence last year.
