President Fuad Masum confirmed his intention to call the elected parliament to convene during the constitutional period in preparation for the exercise of legislative and oversight functions, and while thanking the US ambassador in Iraq for his country’s interest in supporting the political process, he expressed confidence in the success of political forces in reaching understandings to form The next government.
This came in a statement to the Presidency of the Republic and distributed at the dawn of Monday after receiving President of the Republic Fuad Masum, US Ambassador to Iraq Douglas Silliman, where they reviewed ways to strengthen relations of cooperation between the two countries and the two friendly peoples as well as the overall political developments in Iraq and the region, according to the statement.
According to the statement, he thanked the United States for supporting the political process in Iraq, stressing the determination to “invite the elected parliament to convene during the constitutional period in preparation for the exercise of legislative and supervisory functions.”
He also noted his satisfaction with the announcement by the Federal Court of its ratification of the final results of the elections held last May, without commenting on accusations of forgery or appeals that were not considered.
He also expressed his confidence that “the political forces succeed in reaching the necessary understandings to form the next government during the constitutional period to ensure that citizens’ demands are met with services, unemployment, security and deepening national unity and democracy.”
For his part, the US ambassador reiterated his country’s support for the stability of Iraq and to continue to provide the necessary assistance to Iraqis in all fields within the framework of the strategic agreement between the two countries. He thanked President Masum for his interest in shedding light on all efforts exerted to deepen the unity of Iraqis and progress of their country.
