Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will visit Tehran and Ankara, the two economic allies facing new US sanctions, an Iraqi official said Saturday.
“Abadi will go to Turkey on Tuesday and Wednesday to Iran to discuss economic issues with the two countries,” the official told AFP.
Abadi said Tuesday that Iraq had to abide by US sanctions against Iran despite its lack of sympathy, noting that his country had suffered an international embargo for 12 years.
Abadi’s comments have been criticized by many Shi’ite parties, especially those with factions in the popular rally.
