The President of the Supreme Judicial Council ordered the appointment of three judges nominated by the Judicial Council in the province of Kurdistan Stan to take over the task of directors of the offices of the Commission.
The task of the judiciary will be to run the election offices in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk.
“This completes the appointment of the directors of the offices of the Electoral Commission in all provinces of Iraq and the Kurdistan region,” said Abdul Sattar Birqdar, spokesman for the Supreme Judicial Council.
Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council appointed nine new judges to oversee the work of the Electoral Commission and re-count the votes of voters in the recent elections.
The move came after the parliament passed an amendment to the election law guaranteeing the suspension of the work of the members of the Commission.
The new judges will assume the responsibilities and powers of the Board of Commissioners until the results of the legislative elections held on 12 May have been approved.
