BAGHDAD (Reuters) –

Judges tasked with the work of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC ) discussed Wednesday with UN Special Representative for Iraq Jan Kubic the latest support for the amendment of the election law.

“The judges assigned to the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) have today joined the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq, Jan Kubic,” Judge Abdul Sattar Birqdar, spokesman for the Supreme Judicial Council, said in a statement received by al-Ghad Press.

He added that “the judges discussed with Kubic ways to support the United Nations Mission in Iraq for the work of the Board of Commissioners to implement the Third Amendment Law to the law of the elections of the House of Representatives.”

“The two sides also discussed issues related to overcoming the complexities that accompanied the announcement of the results of the recent parliamentary elections and seeking to implement the provisions of the law in a fair and transparent manner,” Berkdar said.
