The hundreds of Peshmerga forces, security forces and other security forces in the province of Sulaymaniyah on Wednesday morning in a protest against the decision of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to cancel the special vote in the Kurdistan Region for the legislative elections held in May.
The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani had expressed on Tuesday the rejection of the Kurdistan Region to the decision of the Iraqi Council of Representatives to eliminate the votes of the special ballot for the Peshmerga forces in the legislative elections that took place recently.
The demonstrators raised banners condemning the decision, demanding the parties and political parties in the region after giving up any voice of the forces that “defended Kurdistan and Iraq in the war against the Dahesh.”
“Why are they making a difference between us and the rest of the Iraqi forces? We are not part of the federal defense system,” one of the protesters told Shafak News.
He also said “we will not accept and will not allow to compromise on our voices and to hear all parties and political parties in the Kurdistan region and Iraq.”
To this another protester said that “the abolition of the special vote for the Peshmerga forces aim to destabilize the security of Kurdistan, and end the entity of the region.”
The Iraqi parliament has decided last week through the issuance of the law to cancel the special vote in the Kurdistan region and the external vote and the vote of the displaced, which caused protests to the two main parties in the region, the National Union and the Democratic Party.
