A source familiar with the meeting on Sunday, a meeting between the leader of the Sadrist movement Moqtada al-Sadr and the leader of the Fatah alliance Hadi al-Amiri, and some leaders of the coalition.
The source, who declined to be named for (Baghdad today), said that “today will witness a meeting that brings together alliance with the alliance of conquest, to discuss future alliances and the formation of the largest bloc, for the purpose of forming a new Iraqi government.”
The source added, “It is likely that the meeting in the presence of Sadr and Amiri, and in the absence of the two leaders, will be the meeting between the negotiating committees in the two alliances.”
On Sunday night, al-Abbadi and the leader of the Sadrist movement held a meeting in Baghdad, according to press reports that he “saw Sadr’s requirement that Abadi leave the Dawa party, in return for the second term.”
He congratulated Abadi, according to a statement of the Office of Information Abadi, “the Iraqi people once again to hold elections on time, thanking the security forces that protected the voters and maintained neutrality.”
Abadi called on “all blocs to accept the results and follow the legal means of objections and called on the Commission to consider them.”
“The meeting with Mr. Moqtada al-Sadr is to work together to speed up the formation of the government and the next government will be strong and provide services and job opportunities, improve living standards and fight corruption,” he said.
Abadi said, “The meeting witnessed a convergence of views on the need to accommodate everyone.”
“The meeting is a reassuring message that the next government is a fatherly and caring for all the people,” he said, adding that “our hand is extended to all those who build the homeland and be an Iraqi decision.” He stressed the importance of speeding up the formation of a government that takes into account the aspirations of our people.
