A source close to Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said on Wednesday the government’s stance on the Syrian crisis and threats by US President Donald Trump to strike the Syrian regime.
The source told Ashqaf News that “the Iraqi government will take a policy of self-distancing in this crisis, and it supports a peaceful solution and focuses on the end of the organization is calling.”
“Iraq is now on the alert, not to intervene in the war, but it is excluded, but to secure its borders, and this is part of the priorities of the commander-in-chief of the armed forces.”
And on the prevention of the involvement of Iraqi internal parties in this crisis, the source continued that “the official position and the forces follow the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and any individual positions of those who are on the Syrian territory of the Iraqi parties does not represent the position of the Iraqi government.”
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to strike smart missiles at Syria in retaliation for the chemical bombardment of the eastern city of Douma.
