US helicopter crashes in Anbar

The US military announced late on Thursday that a military helicopter carrying US soldiers had fallen in western Iraq.

“The rescue teams are dealing with the site where the plane landed at the moment,” the US Central Command said in a statement. “There are no further details yet,” the US Central Command said in a statement.

Reuters quoted a US official as saying that according to preliminary reports, the aircraft was believed to be a “H-60” helicopter and landed near Qaim in Anbar province near the Syrian border.

The official said the plane “was carrying seven people” and that it was likely to have been killed.

The agency quoted the mayor of Qaim Ahmad al-Mahlawi as saying that the plane was carrying seven people.

The US Central Command confirmed it would investigate the cause of the crash.
