The leader of the Peshmerga forces said on Saturday that he expected the reopening of the Kirkuk-Erbil road this week after completion of work and repair of the sites to protect it to prevent any obstruction of the passage of citizens.
“The Peshmerga is currently preparing preparations for the organization of its positions within the borders of that region,” the official said.
Karkuki said he expected the work to be completed this week and the Peshmerga would open the way. He said the Peshmerga would organize their positions and that the places where Peshmerga positions would be located would protect the area as well as guarantee the free passage of citizens.
Karkuki stressed that as a democratic party and Peshmerga, especially President Massoud Barzani, they are thinking about serving the citizens and will also continue to provide facilities, protection and happiness, while at the same time in constant readiness to prevent any undesirable incidents at all levels and to go to Arbil, the capital of the region. Last Thursday under the supervision of Barzani decides to open the way.
After the events of 16 October last year there was a confrontation between the Peshmerga and the militias of the popular crowd near the hand of the bridge “Barada” was followed by the closure of the road between Arbil and Kirkuk.
