Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri, looked forward to a greater role by the United Nations to address the effects of the referendum that took place in the Kurdistan region in order to contain the repercussions that may result from it.

This came during a meeting with the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Kubic, during which he discussed the most important political and security developments and the referendum that took place in the Kurdistan region.

They also discussed a file of aid to the displaced and international efforts to return them to their liberated areas from the control of the organization calling the terrorist.

“We look forward to a greater role by the United Nations to deal with the effects of the referendum that took place in the Kurdistan region in order to contain the repercussions that may result from it,” Jubouri said, stressing that Iraq sticks to the unity of its territory and keen on the survival of Kurdish citizens within the unified Iraq.

The speaker of the House of Representatives appreciated the humanitarian effort of the United Nations in helping Iraq through the reconstruction of cities affected by military operations against the organization of urging and accelerating the return of displaced families to their areas.

For his part, Kubic praised the efforts of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to pass laws and decisions that will enhance stability in the country.

Secretary-General of the United Nations warns of destabilizing the region because of the Kurdish referendum

The Secretary – General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres warned on Monday, destabilize the region because of the referendum secession of the province of Kurdistan .

“The United Nations warns of instability in the region because of the referendum in the region and I am concerned about the potential for instability,” the secretary general told a news conference.

He called on Antonio Guterich to “resolve the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil dialogue,” stressing that he “respects the territorial integrity of Iraq .”

On Monday, the Kurdistan region held a referendum on secession from Iraq in the region and disputed areas, despite the popular and international rejection of the referendum, which reached a rate of participation to 78%, while the referendum witnessed violations by voters who expressed their opinion for more than once.
