Baghdad / Al-Ghad Press:
The head of the Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani, the Minister of State for Gulf Affairs Thamer al-Sobhan, the region has never closed the door of dialogue and negotiations.
“Barzani received Al-Subhan on Sunday evening, which conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the Saudi monarch and crown prince to the government and the people of Kurdistan,” the statement said.
He added that his country “is ready to mediate and prepare the ground for talks to address the problems between Baghdad and Erbil,” stressing “the continuation and development of long-standing friendly relations between Saudi Arabia and the Kurdistan region.”
For his part, Barzani praised the position of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and his crown prince, noting that “the region has never closed the door of dialogue and negotiations.”
The relationship between the government of Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government increased tension in the recent period, because of the latter’s insistence on a referendum on the secession of the territory from Iraq on September 25.
