The US administration expressed readiness to “fully support” the dialogue between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region to find a solution to the outstanding issues between the two sides, renewing opposition to the referendum scheduled on September 25 for the independence of the province from Iraq.
The statement came in a statement distributed by the US Embassy in Baghdad and was reported to the Twilight News on Thursday, during which it highlighted the visit of the Special Presidential Envoy of the International Coalition to defeat Brett McGuck.
The statement said that McGour visited Iraq for the period from 19 to 23 August, and met with Prime Minister Haider Abadi and Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri and other senior political figures, religious and security.
The special presidential envoy was accompanied by US Defense Secretary Jim Matisse, who visited Iraq on August 22 for meeting Abadi, Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Irfan al-Hayali and Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani.
Special envoy Makgork praised the Iraqi security forces and the Kurdish Peshmerga for their victories on the battlefield, including the liberation of Mosul, which was achieved with courage.
He also expressed hope that Iraqi security forces would achieve a major victory in the battle of Tal Afar, which began earlier this week.
“The United States is ready to fully support this process,” McGork said. “The United States is ready to support this process in full.”
He praised Prime Minister Abadi for his contacts with Saudi Arabia, which led to a “historic development” in relations between the two countries.
He noted that the United States will continue to support Iraq’s integration with the region and build new trade routes that benefit all Iraqi communities still recovering from the effects of the war against Da’ash.
In his meetings, Special Envoy McGork confirmed the commitment of the coalition and the United States to assist the Iraqi campaign to defeat a militant organization on the battlefield and provide essential support in the areas of humanitarian assistance and stabilization while victories in the battles are achieved.
So far, more than two million Iraqis displaced by the war against Dahed have returned home, including more than 250,000 to Mosul.
McGork urged the international community to continue to support Iraq in its efforts to care for those still displaced and to create the conditions for a safe return to their homes.
