The Minister of Agriculture in the Kurdistan Regional Government Abdul Sattar Majid said on Tuesday that the delegation of the referendum will put the Iraqi government on the issue of delay payment of financial dues to the farmers of Kurdistan on the wheat crop marketed from them.

Majid said in a joint press conference with the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Water in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, Jafar Aminki, that “the government of the region is working to collect these funds from the federal government, has opened the ministries of agriculture and trade and the Committee on Agriculture and marshes in the Iraqi parliament in this regard, .

He predicted that “the federal government deal worse with the quota to market the wheat crop from the Kurdistan Region.”

Majid added that “the ministry is working to support farmers to improve the reality of local product,” noting that “the ministry has opened the Iraqi government, Iran and Turkey to facilitate the entry of local product to the Kurdistan region.”

For his part, said the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Water in the Kurdistan Parliament Jafar Aminki at the same conference, “The Iraqi government in Baghdad is pursuing a policy of starvation against the peasants in Kurdistan.”

He added that “the federal government did not hand over the amount owed to farmers in Kurdistan in exchange for marketing wheat crop during the past three years, which amounted to 600 million US dollars,” stressing that the Parliament and the Government of Kurdistan are working to receive.
