Kurdistan Region leaderships have agreed on postponing the referendum on independence until further notice, Samir Salim, member of Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU)’s administrative council, revealed Sunday.
In a press statement, Salim said that the US had observations on the organization of Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum.
He also noted that Washington sent a secret message to senior officials in the region, demanding the delay of the referendum scheduled for September 25.
Kurdistan leadership has approved the US request provided that Washington officially asks for postponing the referendum through official channels, he added.
On Saturday, Kurdistan Islamic Union leader Shuan Raper expected that Kurdistan independence referendum will eventually be delayed, asserting the necessity to unify Kurdistan people’s stance on critical issues.
