The President of the Kurdistan region (outgoing), Massoud Barzani, to visit Baghdad next week to discuss a number of important files.
“Barzani will visit Baghdad in the coming days to head a high-level delegation to discuss a number of issues, notably the referendum scheduled for next September,” the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) said in a statement.
He added that “the visit may also include some controversial files, including the region’s share of the general budget for the current year and the disputed areas to the war on terrorism and secure liberated areas.”
The new Prime Minister Haider Abadi, on Tuesday, his refusal to conduct the Kurdistan region referendum self-determination, stressing that it will raise political problems and disagreements and the Iraqi government will not recognize it being outside the context of the Constitution.
A number of regional countries, including the United States and European Union countries, warned the Kurdistan region not to hold the referendum for the time being, stressing their support for a unified Iraq.
