Washington begins rehabilitation of schools and hospitals in Mosul

The US Embassy in Baghdad announced on Wednesday the implementation of service projects to clean up schools and hospitals in Mosul and remove debris from the University of Mosul.

“2,000 people are working in the money-for-work activities in the left coast of Mosul through projects funded by the US Embassy and implemented by the UNDP Stabilization Program to rehabilitate Mosul,” said a statement by the embassy, ​​which was seen by the Journal News.

Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi stressed on Wednesday the need to move the powers to the provinces properly and the non-interference of politicians in executive affairs.
“The fighters who started from the provinces to liberate al-Anbar, Salah al-Din and Mosul have overcome sectarianism and achieved national unity and victory in their finest sense,” the statement quoted the prime minister as saying during a speech at the meeting of the supreme coordination body between the provinces.

Abadi called for “investing in national unity and working with devotion and sacrifice like the fighters who carried their lives on their shoulders,” pointing out that “we have the honor as Iraqis to eliminate the oppressor and we will continue to liberate the remaining land in Tal Afar, Hawija and West Anbar with the same strength and determination.”

The Iraqi official said “the government is currently investigating 38 individuals in the army and the federal police on charges of smuggling IS leaders,” adding that these officials have made huge amounts of money out of the business.
