Former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki lives in a virtual world that is quite divorced from reality, Hoshyar Zebari, a leader in Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), revealed on Sunday.
This comes after Maliki said in statements that Kurdistan Region has no right to secede from Iraq.
In statements published in KDP official website, Zebari, former finance minister, called on Maliki to read UN charter on all peoples’ right to self-determination and review other international treaties tackling this right.
Kurdistan people insists on holding the referendum on independence, he noted, adding that there is no intention to postpone it.
Zebari, member of the Supreme Council for the referendum in the Kurdistan Region, said that the council decided to form committees, including a diplomatic relations to communicate with foreign countries.
These committees will visit a number of countries to deliver Kurdistan’s message on the referendum and motives behind holding it, he added.
Kurdistan Regional Government announced on June 7 that it would vote on September 25 on independence.
