Iraqi forces moved into the right coast to the west of Mosul, while Prime Minister Haider Abadi arrived to inspect the military units there.
Brigadier Yahya Rasool, spokesman for the Joint Operations Command, told AFP that “our units are continuing to advance into the first health and rehabilitation neighborhoods and the (Republican) Hospital.” All these districts are still under the control of the Da’ash organization west of Mosul .
“When these neighborhoods are liberated, the Old City will be cordoned off from all sides,” the spokesman said, adding that insurgents still face such progress with “the same style, booby-trapped wheels, snipers and suicide bombers.”
Regarding the evacuation of civilians, he stressed that “what is important to us is the full liberation of citizens through the opening of safe corridors and the placement of guides and vehicles to transport them.”
This progress came with the arrival of Haider Abadi to the city of Mosul, knowing that he visits military headquarters near the battlefields from time to time as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
