ERBIL — The cooperation between Kurdistan Region Peshmerga and the Iraqi forces is destroying the Islamic State (IS), said Brett McGurk, the US Special Presidential Envoy to the coalition battling IS.
McGurk made the remark after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s visit to Erbil and the liberate areas of Mosul.
On Tuesday, Abadi met Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani in Erbil to discuss the latest security and political developments, with the ongoing operations against IS in Mosul on the top of the agenda.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the level of coordination and cooperation between the Iraqi and Peshmerga forces who have both been actively engaged in the Mosul operation.
“They also expressed their condolences to the loved ones and families of those who paid the ultimate price within the Iraqi and Peshmerga forces,” Kurdistan Region Presidency reported.
