Pentagon: Additional US Troops Will Not Participate In Combat Missions Print Save

BAGHDAD / NINA / Pentagon announced that “The extra troops that w

ill be sent to Iraq announced President will not participate in combat missions and their tasks will focus on the establishment training camps for about ten Iraqi military brigades.”

A statement for the Pentagon said, “The US military would deploy an additional 1500 troops in Iraq to strengthen its efforts to help Iraqi forces to confront militants of the / IS / during the coming period.”

The ministry added that “the US troops will provide advice to Iraqi military units through two centers outside Baghdad and Erbil.”

It is mentioned that the White House announced that President Barack Obama ordered the deployment of 1,500 more US military troops in Iraq to train Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga, bringing the total number of military advisers in Iraq to 2900.

The White House said in a statement yesterday: “This force will work in military bases outside Baghdad and Erbil, and will not have a combat role.”

The statement added: “President Obama made the decision at the request of the Iraqi government and on the recommendation of the Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and military leaders on the basis of the estimated needs of the Iraqi forces,” ./ End
